The String Cheese Incident Wraps Run At Dillon Amphitheater

The String Cheese Incident concluded their two-night stand at Dillon Amphitheater in the band’s home state of Colorado on Wednesday. As with the night previous, the show got off to a late start due to weather but SCI still fit in two sets and an encore for the Dillon finale.

When the weather allowed, Cheese got the show going with “One Step Closer” followed by keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth leading the band through “Close Your Eyes.” The relatively new tune “Gone Crooked” — a co-write between SCI bassist Keith Moseley, frequent collaborator Rayland Baxter and Cage The Elephants’ Nick Bockrath — came next ahead of “The Pygmy Pony,” which has been played just under 30 times since debuting in 2000, as per Phantasy Tour. A seamless set closing segment of “Got What He Wanted,” “Far From Home” and “Tinder Box” brought the first frame to a close.

SCI kept the segues going to kick off the second set. The band began the continuous section with Tim O’Brien’s “Land’s End” followed by “Glory Chords.” While the latter has seen a resurgence in the past decade, the Dillon 2021 play marked just the 23rd performance of the instrumental since its debut in 2004. “Shantytown” and “Valley Of The Jig” would wrap up the seamless opening section. Cheese continued with “Illegal,” composed by drummer Michael Travis, and the staple “It Is What It Is,” from mandolinist/fiddler Michael Kang. The Bill Nershi-penned classic “Black Clouds” would lead into “Rosie” to close out the second set. The String Cheese Incident would retake the stage for an encore of Peter Gabriel’s “Shakin’ The Tree.”
