Revered DJ and producer Moodymann (born Kenny Dixon Jr.) has been a staple of Detroit’s digital scene since the ’90s. However, the Detroit icon saw himself in a confrontation with police that led to his arrest at his Highland Park residency on Jan. 12. Moodymann shared with the footage on his Instagram page before taking it down just hours later.

Still available to see below, the movie reveals Moodymann in the motorist ’s seat of the vehicle, surrounded by police with weapons drawn. While the movie shows multiple armed police officers ordering him to “unlock the fucking door,” Moodymann appeared to bring some context to this situation in the caption of this movie.

“HP authorities came n (MY BACKYARD) requiring evidence of ownership and this is the way they responded (Went 2 jail again) charged me Breaking and entering my own property although I had keys. What u Can ’t call would be 9 other officers pointing their AR15 straight at my head…second time only pull on the MF trigger let’s get this shit over with (I’m tired) I’m so tired”

Pitchfork received confirmation in the Highland Park Police Department that a “Kenneth Dixon” was arrested that night, though they could not affirm that it was Moodymann himself. The police report suggests that they also received a record of “questionable behavior” at the DJ’s house. Upon arrival, they found Moodymann in his vehicle, at which time he told them he owned the building and had the keys to go into. According to authorities, Dixon also suggested that he was in possession of a firearm, at which stage the police moved to arrest him for failing to immediately divulge a hidden weapon, not using a building license, and resisting and obstructing.

In an announcement to the Detroit Free Press, the Highland Park Police Department noted that Moodymann failed to create personal ID and evidence of ownership of their home, however “further evaluation confirmed ownership…Mr. Dixon was published and issued a few citations regarding this incident. ”
