Artist Spotlight: Nicole Moudaber Fights to End Female Genital Mutilation
Considering that the legendary Carl Cox shouted her out as dance songs ’s most underrated DJ at 2009, Nicole Moudaber has broken her bum season and year out to build a techno empire. In 2018, Moudaber was making big movements as a DJ, producer, radio show host, along with tag boss; I will ’wont wait to find out what comes from the techno legend in 2019. Besides having an undoubted legend of techno, Moudaber also recently established Eleven, a campaign she’s initiated in hopes to end the custom of female genital mutilation (FGM), a brutal spiritual and cultural practice in which a young girl’s genitalia are ritually cut, eliminated or partly sewn shut.
Moudaber named the charity campaign based on the statistic of how many women are undergoing the procedure globally to get a minute to minute basis:
“Every moment, somewhere in the world, 11 women undergo female genital mutilation. ”
That adds up to almost 6 million women each year.
In a recent interview using DJ Mag, Moudaber explains how she became enthusiastic on the Subject of FGM:
“The first time I learned about it and saw a few documentaries about it was when I was at college here in England. I was here in my apartment and I had CNN on. And I hear this crying of this kid. I ran to find out what was going on and it was, in fact, a documentary talking about FGM and really showing what was going on. It affected me so much that honestly, I felt that the pain, and I began to shout. I thought it was very unjust to have this going on in the world. And ever since there, I got obsessed and I wanted to do something about it. It freaked me out. ”
Each of the money raised by Moudaber’s Eleven charity has been contributed go to rsquo & girls;therefore rights firm Magool. The business was set by Somali-British psychotherapist, activist and Guardian columnist Leyla Hussein.
