Meters & Neville Brothers Keyboardist Art Neville Announces Retirement

Famous keyboardist Art Neville announced his retirement from music following a 65-year profession. The New Orleans-bred Neville is a founding member of influential funk behaves The Meters and The Neville Brothers and much more recently concentrated his efforts on the funky METERS.

Art, who recently turned 81, was battling health problems in the past several years and hasn’t done publicly since 2017. “Poppa Funk” issued a statement declaring his decision where he thanks “the lovers for all of the terrific years of assistance and also for letting us share our music on earth. ” The Meters celebrated their 50th anniversary aboard Jam Cruise 15 in 2017 following a career full of such unforgettable classics as “Cissy Strut,” “Just Kissed My Baby,” and “Hey Pocky A-Way. ” Earlier this season, the group was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy. Art did not attend or function in the ceremony, which had been held in Los Angeles.

Neville’s playing and voice were in the center of tunes from both The Meters and The Neville Brothers. Art has been an significant part The Neville Brothers in the band ’s founding in 1977 through their 1980’s hey day and 2004 comeback album Walkin’ In The Shadow Of Life. The funky METERS hope to continue using the keyboardist’s nephew, Ivan Neville, sitting in Art’s chair as he has for a variety of gigs in the last several years.
