Colorado radio listeners vote to keep “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” on air

A Colorado radio station polled its listeners, asking whether a holiday tune that is favorite infamous for its lyrics that are predatory only must go. The solution is no.

“Baby, It’s Cold Outside” lives on at Colorado’s Christmas radio station KOSI 101.1 despite initially being yanked off the air.

The song, according to a duet in which a woman says she wants to depart the date she’s on and also the crooning man won’t let her go, features lyrics like the woman asking “Say, what’s in this beverage? ”

An Ohio radio station ceased playing the tune , citing that listeners felt the tone of the song didn’t sit nicely with the #MeToo movement that is sweeping the planet and bringing attention to sexual harassment and assault.

KOSI 101.1 followed suit Monday following the station received similar complaints and chose to allow listeners decide. Respondents to the online poll remained unbothered by the words which, admittedly, sound like a Tinder date .

The online poll generated over 15,000 answers, and 95% of them voted to keep the song rolling, KOSI 101.1 Program Director Jim Lawson wrote in a statement published on the station’s website.

“We love the comments we received and value our listeners’ opinion,”” Lawson said. “While we’re sensitive to people who may be bothered by some of those lyrics, the vast majority of those listeners have voiced their interpretation of the tune to become non-offensive. ”
