Luboku Premieres New Single, “50 Days,” Off Debut EP [Exclusive]
“50 Days” is away his debut EP’The Surface’ out Nov.23
Melbourne-based producer/songwriter, Luboku (real name Luis Kennett), graced our eardrums with the premiere of”50 Days” today. The only is off his debut solo album, The Surface, out November 23rd with the Australian label, etcetc- that the home to artists such as PNAU, Fever Ray and Digitalism.
“50 Days” jumps in with some lush, haunting vocals. The instrumental is composed of a tight drum groove and syncopated synth stabs. Kennett’s chorus/drop creates a brooding tone together using those low-octave vocal chops. His attention to detail is more apparent with the evolving percussion.
Of the track, Luboku has said:
“The initial demo of 50 days came out pretty fast – at the time I was confident in what I wanted it to sound like and I thought it was sitting really well, but a few weeks later when I revisited the track I wanted to change it. I went through about 4 completely different versions but in the end, it was that first draft that I decided to go with because it felt more honest. It’s funny how the process of writing the song mirrors the meaning behind it – 50 days is about trying to work through a feeling you’ve been sitting with, and I think constantly changing the song was my way of processing that feeling.”
Kennet entered the scene with the release of the three-track EP At Dawn with New Zealand-based collaborator Hosaia in 2014. Kennet took charge of the production side, creating a sweeping, delicate bed of audio together with Hosaia laying down vocals.
Led by the single”Set to Go”, the At Dawn EP reached in excess of 50,000 flows in its first week. Indie Shuffle noted it as exhibiting “a strength and confidence well beyond most acts debuting their job together”. The release of the EP sparked Kennet to pursue his solo career.
Kennet’s debut solo single”The Surface” premiered in late 2017 – the first person from a new body of work, and also the title track from his impending EP, The Surface. His current, uphoric only”Without You” then saw assistance from across the globe – together using the likes of XLR8R and Indie Shuffle providing it their tick of approval. The monitor also put him in the joys of Triple J Unearthed, that selected him as their Feature Artist round the release. Another third only followed;”None of You” showed a more profound, more sensitive side of Kennet.
