Jack White Blondie Cover From 1997 Surfaces
In a recent blog post in support of Cassette Store Day, Third Man Records co-founder and White Stripes archivist Ben Blackwell dropped the information he had stumbled upon a tape from 1997 that included an undocumented Jack White appearance. In the extended piece Blackwell written for Discogs qualified Why Cassettes Are The New 45s, he shared with the information that White had led vocals to a cover of Blondie’s “One Way Or Another. ”
According to the post, White was employed as a session programmer to assist a band known as 400 Pounds of Punk record a tape at a makeshift house studio at 1203 Ferdinand Street at Southwest Detroit. The five-song EP which Blackwell found in his cellar contains White singing the song from Blondie’s 1978 album Parallel Lines he is calling, “the trendiest physical launch of some Jack White functionality …I doubt more than a half-dozen people even knew about that. ” Listen to White’s contribution into the cover of Blondie’s “One Way Or Another” below:
In added Jack White information, the singer-guitarist has inserted a set of new shows to his visit in support of Boarding House Reach. White will appear at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre on November 17 and Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom on November 19. Tickets go on sale to the public this Friday, October 12th at 11 a.m. local time. A limited quantity of pre-sale tickets will be offered to Third Man Vault members starting at 10 a.m. local time on Thursday, October 11th.
