High Plains Comedy Fest and 22 Things to do in Denver this Week

Halcyon Yoga Series

The Lowdown: Take a night to feel theatric at a West Side Story Sing-Along. The event features a screening of West Side Story where you can take part in singing the lyrics of each classic song. The event will benefit The Denver Actors Fund, a non-profit organization that helps Denver’s theater community in times of need. Tickets are limited so make sure you purchase yours soon.

The Lowdown: Sunset Cinema continues its Wes Anderson-tastic film screening series. This Tuesday you can see a screening of The Royal Tenenbaums — a film following the oddball Tenenbaum family. You can participate in a costume contest and trivia with food to fuel your movie night.

Film For All Seasons

The Lowdown: Learn more about the legendary rock band at Deconstructing The Beatles. The event features a discussion with Scott Freiman as he explores how The Beatles rose to fame in such a short amount of time, gaining the notary status that they still hold today.

Golden Triangle Public Art Tour

The Lowdown: Transformative Freedom Fund presents Opening Doors to Authenticity. The event features the second annual fundraiser to showcase the work achieved throughout the year and celebrate new doors opening. You can listen to music, sip on drinks and nibble on bites to help support Transformative Freedom Fund.

The Lowdown: Rev your engines during a screening of Speed Racer. The film follows the journey of Speed Racer, a young racer born into a car racing family trying to be the best in the world. The film bursts in live action, containing the same vibrant colors as its cartoon predecessor.

The Lowdown: Museum of Contemporary Art Denver (MCA) presents B-Side Music. The musical series promoting up and coming local musicians features performances this week from Koo Qua — a southwest indie artist, Pries — a rapper on the up and ups and YaSi — a Denver hip-hop artist. The first 100 people to enter will receive a free Ratio beer to sip on.
Saturday, August 25
Rocky Horror – Sensual Daydreams
When: August 25, 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.

The Lowdown: Denver Botanic Gardens presents Full Moon Kundalini Yoga and Sound Healing. You can center your qi and bend into a yoga flow followed by a guided meditation from Chris Anne Coviello of The Healing Space Wellness Center. Make sure to bring a mat and any other yoga props needed for your comfort as well as water to stay hydrated.

303 Magazine Pool Party Series
When: August 26, 1:10 – 8:10 p.m.

The Lowdown: Watch a film at Coors Field during a Movie Night. The event features a screening of The Sandlot on the new scoreboard. The film presents a story following a group of young kids with a love of baseball and a knack of getting into trouble.
